PoolIt

When you run out of disk space, you don't have too many options at your disposal, especially if you can not afford to delete any files. PoolIt offers a good solution, if you are not prepared to spend money on a new hard disk. It gives you the possibility of extending a partition on a USB flash drive or on a FireWire disk. If you have a removable drive, with a large storage capacity, you can merge that memory with a partition,without any damage to your data's integrity.

Besides PoolIt Premium, you can also find a free version, which has a few limitations, but you can still enjoy its core functionality. The application works on Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7, as well as Mac OS X. It supports all NTFS, FAT and SMB file systems and its system requirements are modest.

PoolIt allows you to create multiple memory pools. They are displayed in the software's compact interface, as parent folders, in a tree structure. These folders contain details about merged partitions, like their total, used and free space. You can also find their combined values, so you will know how much disk space you will acquire.

Pools are created on a separate window. All you have to do is add one or more drives to a list and associate them with different colors, if you need to. Once created, you may select your new pool, on the main interface and click a button to mount it. In a few seconds, your targeted drives will be merged into a single partition.

You can dismount the new partition and mount it again, without damaging your files. It is also possible to export the pool settings and import them when you need to. In addition, the software lets you select one or more services, as dependencies for the merged partitions.
